Dear Buckley Parent,
On behalf of the Buckley Parents’ Association I would like to wish you a warm welcome to the upcoming 2009-2010 school year.
I hope you enjoyed your summer vacation; it seems to have flown by so quickly! But, I am very excited for the school year to begin as we have many wonderful plans for the Parents’ Association, our school, and ultimately, the enhancement of our children’s education and environment.
As a parent or legal guardian of a current student, you are automatically a member of The Buckley Parents’ Association. I encourage you to get involved with Parents’ Association and the school. In doing so, you will meet many interesting parents that share a common love – our extraordinary students. The Parents’ Association is a distinguished organization that represents the depth and meaning of the Buckley commitment.
I have worked over the summer to organize the year to come, and I am awed by the commitment and dedication of not only our returning parents, but also the new parents who are jumping in to be a part of our Buckley family. I am pleased to report that Buckley parent participation and volunteerism is not only alive and well… but it is booming!
My husband Bob and I have been proud parents of three Buckley students for the past 13 years. Our oldest son Matthew (‘09) graduated as a Buckley Lifer in June. His graduation at Disney Hall was one of the most emotional and beautiful events our family has ever experienced. Matt will be attending USC in August, double majoring in graphic design and music. Our twins, Mark and Michael, started Buckley in Beginners and will be going into the 10th grade. With sports and music at the forefront, Mark and Michael are looking forward to another successful year, embracing everything that Buckley has to offer. We are grateful for all that Buckley has provided our children - not only a superb education, but also opportunities to grow, explore and mature in a supportive environment. As you can see, our loyalty to Buckley runs deep and we feel privileged to be an integral part of this incredible educational institution.
Please join us at our monthly Parents’ Association meetings, as you will find them informative and a wonderful way to get acquainted with other parents. The meetings are held the third Wednesday of the month at 8:45 a.m. at the homes of Buckley parents (and as usual, at least one meeting will be held in the evening). At each meeting, Dr. Larry Dougherty, Head of School, will give a report on recent developments at Buckley. We will also have guest speakers from the school that will address various topics of interest. The meetings are an opportunity to learn about the exiting new things that Parents’ Association committees are implementing. In keeping with our “Go Green” theme, information on the Parents’ Association meetings will be emailed to you. Our first meeting is Wednesday, September 16.

And following tradition, we are excited for Buckley’s annual Lower School Grandparents’ and Special Friends Day (Friday, September 25) and Community Service Day (Saturday, October 10). Mark your calendar as these events promise to be fun, exciting and memorable.
In closing, congratulations to new Buckley families and welcome back to all returning families. As parents embarking on our fourteenth year, Bob and I encourage you to cherish the memories you make and embrace the footprints that life at The Buckley School leaves in your hearts.
