Parents’ Association
Dear Buckley Families:
Although like many of you I am reluctant for the summer to end, I am always happy to be coming home to Buckley. It is on that note that I welcome you and your family back to what is shaping up to be an exciting year for all of us, and I welcome new families to Buckley.
I have worked over the summer to organize the year to come, and I am awed by the commitment and dedication of not only our returning parents, but also of the new parents who have responded to our volunteer survey and are jumping in to be a part of our Buckley family. Thanks to everyone who is already working hard on the plans for the coming year.
I have had the opportunity to learn more about our Campus Enhancement Plan and what it means to us as families. I was delighted to learn how well fundraising is progressing and to understand more about what our role as parents will be. I was reassured to find out that the Capital Campaign takes into account the diverse range of our families, and will have a place for our family and all families to participate. Also reassuring was to learn about how well my children -- all of our children -- will be living while construction is taking place. Most importantly, I am glad to know that the quality of their education will not be compromised - although there will be some inconveniences, the end result will be a phenomenal new Buckley.
Events are planned to share more detailed information about the Campus Enhancement Plan and Capital Campaign that I know you will find helpful. It will be important for all of us to stay informed and I encourage you to let me know if you have any questions throughout the year. I have made it a priority of my presidency for everyone to feel a part of this exciting time in the school’s history.
Finally, the funds we all raised together last year are already benefitting the school and our children. Dr. Steve Totland studied puppetry in Prague this summer thanks to the Parents’ Association Faculty Fellowship. I know that what he learns will enrich and enhance his already fantastic drama program. Also, thanks to a Parents’ Association grant, 12 traveled to New York to attend the Columbia Teacher’s College program on writing. The program is reputed to be one of the finest in the country and will directly impact our children and help to hone those critical writing skills. I am so proud of what we accomplished together, as a group, to help make a Buckley education the finest in the city.
As the summer draws to a close, I wish you happy memories and short lines at Dennis! I am really looking forward to working with you and to getting to know you as we all join together to support the education of our children.
With warm regards,
