Gently Used Uniform Sale Raises $2,255 for Financial Aid

Over two days this week, sales of gently used uniforms helped replenish many students’ wardrobes and raised $2,255 for the school’s Financial Aid fund. Over the past two-and-a-half years, the sales have raised nearly $20,000 for Financial Aid, most of which goes to off-set uniform costs. Special thanks to the Parents’ Association Community Service Committee, which runs the sales, and to all of our families who contributed uniform items for which they no longer had a use.

The Buckley Commitment Through the Eyes of its Community

It is Middle and Upper School tradition that students and teachers sign the Buckley Commitment, a set of core values (respect, kindness, honesty, loyalty, self-reliance, and self-discipline) we continually strive to develop in ourselves and in our community. The signing follows an assembly at which students and faculty members give their personal thoughts on the components of the commitment. Rising seniors Alexis and Jordan Bloch On Good Day LA for Teenline Event

When Alexis and Jordan Bloch lost a dear friend four years ago to teen suicide, they committed themselves to working so that others don’t suffer the way their friend and his family had. They volunteered at Teen Line, a peer-to-peer hotline for adolescents facing problems and this Sunday, August 15, they are producing Summer Lovin’, a major concert at the Roxy in Hollywood to raise funds for Teen Line. Rising Senior Produces Cabaret for Cure as Community Service Project

Alex Scolari ’11 is producing "The Girly Show: A Cabaret for a Cure" on September 10 at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood. The all-female variety show is Scolari’s school community service project and will benefit the Revlon UCLA Breast Center. It features performers from ages 7-83 including Broadway veterans, professional dance companies, as well as Scolari and several Buckley students. "Oklahoma!" Selected for Fall Musical

The 2010 Fall Musical has been set, and this year a cast of Buckley Middle and Upper School students will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein's epic Oklahoma!. The production will be staged November 11-13 in the Roy E. Disney Family Pavilion.

Boys Varsity Basketball Wins Summer Tourney

Congratulations to the boys varsity basketball team who won the Sy Lenes Memorial Palm Springs Basketball Tournament. Senior Nick de Bonfilhs was named Tournament MVP. Sophomore Tyler Coppin-Carter was named All Tournament selection and senior Anurag Choudhury, junior Marcell Johnson, and freshmen Chase Holliday, Larry Bush and Brandon Boyd put in outstanding performances.

Two from Class of 2010 Earn All-CIF Honors for Spring Sports

Congratulations to Jake Brodsky and Erin Fukushima who, just weeks after graduation, received All-CIF athletic honors. Brodsky was named First Team All-CIF for his senior season on Buckley's boys varsity baseball team; Fukushima was named Second Team All-CIF in girls varsity softball.

On Saturday, June 12, members of The Buckley School Class of 2010 officially became Buckley alumni in a commencement ceremony held at Walt Disney Concert Hall. The 70 graduates, including 24 Buckley “lifers,” will attend 35 colleges and universities in 13 states plus the District of Columbia and Scotland. Special thanks to Buckley alumna Rashida Jones ’93 and her father, music and entertainment luminary Quincy Jones, for presenting the commencement address.

Buckley JSA Takes 2nd Place in National Civic Impact Awards

Congratulations to Buckley's Junior States of America (JSA) Chapter, which placed second among all JSA chapters in the U.S. for the National Civic Impact Awards. The chapter entered contention for the national award by winning the title of Southern California Chapter of the Year award, which recognizes the JSA chapter that best represents JSA ideals as measured through: chapter activities designed to increase campus interest in government and politics as well as in JSA; many people involved in chapter leadership; growth of chapter; involvement in conventions and congresses including strong presentations; and, community involvement.

Band Praises Buckley Lower School Students' Cover of Indie Tune

When third grade teacher Mr. Park and several of his students posted a video cover they made of "My Cabal" by School of Seven Bells on YouTube, they simply wanted to share their love of indie music with their friends. Much to their surprise, the members of the band themselves viewed the video, posted a comment of high praise ("thanks so much all of you! we're truly touched. this is probably the most beautiful version of our song yet!!!"), and alerted their fans to Buckley's cover via Facebook and Twitter and even posted the video on their official website!
