Whether Buckley graduates choose to travel, study and work abroad or to stay in the U.S., their understanding of international cultures will be a critical component of their future success.
The International Studies program at Buckley aims to expand students’ cultural, linguistic, and diplomatic understanding and broaden their perspectives of societies around the globe. Through home-stay exchange programs with affiliated schools, students have real-life opportunities to speak inside and out of the classroom. Cultural enrichment programs are offered to increase knowledge of and appreciation for other ways of life to increase global awareness and cultural sensitivities. Recent cultural enrichment trips have included a summer trip to China and Spring Break excursions to both Spain and Italy. The school has a biennial exchange program with a high school in Italy, through which Buckley families host Italians students for one week and Buckley students in turn, stay with these students in Italy.
On an individual level, junior and senior students may spend a school year abroad (SYA) living with a European or Asian family for a full academic year. The SYA program emphasizes foreign language acquisition while continuing American core classes in math and English.
