Student Government
The Middle and Upper School Associated Student Body (ASB) includes four elected representatives from each of the grade levels. Requirements for involvement in ASB include good academic standing, a good citizenship record, completion of service requirements, and one semester of attendance at Buckley. Middle School ASB is led by an executive board made up of a president and vice president. Upper School ASB is led by an executive board made up of a president, vice president and secretary. Upper School representatives and the executive board are encourages to take a class entitled “Leadership in the 21st Century” which is a full credit class focusing on all aspects of leadership and event planning for the school.
Student government is a critical component to the building of future leaders at Buckley and beyond. Upper School students take on a variety of roles and responsibilities as student government representatives, including the planning of events such as Spirit Week, Assemblies, the Buckley Student Leadership Conference (www.buckleyla.org/bslc), trips to the beach, Karaoke Nights, etc. Students not only generate ideas, but follow through with them, with logistical planning as an important element of the experience.
