Upper School

This school year is my first at Buckley, which means not long ago I too was on the school’s website, trying to get a sense of Buckley’s program and culture as I considered joining the community. The 4-Fold Plan of Education, and especially its emphasis on creativity and moral education, stood out for me.

At Buckley, we believe that high school students should become accomplished generalists before beginning to specialize in college. Our 4-Fold Plan educational philosophy and college preparatory curriculum ensure that all of our graduates receive a well-rounded, liberal arts education. The program incorporates 21st century learning principles, from globalism and innovative problem solving to integrated technology and media literacy. And our small school size makes participation in numerous extracurricular opportunities possible. While many of our students have a specialty or passion— be it in the arts, athletics, or sciences— they all truly engage in each aspect of the 4-Fold Plan.

We also believe that learning to think critically and creatively is paramount to students’ development and education, as is strength of character. Human values are embedded in every discipline of our curriculum and are given primacy through vehicles such as “The Buckley Commitment.” This emphasis on ethics and moral education resonated with me as I believe that schools should not only prepare our students for success in college, but should also help them develop personal responsibility and leadership skills. Now that I am here at Buckley, I can see firsthand how this philosophy is embodied by the warm, caring, and principled young people here.

Thank you for visiting our school website and I hope you will plan a visit to our vibrant campus soon. It would be a pleasure to welcome you to our community and show you in person why we are so excited about the unique learning environment at Buckley.

Sincerely,

Signature
