The Enhancements
A new Middle and Upper School Main Academic Center will replace the existing Middle and Upper School classroom buildings offering purpose-built classrooms, such as band, choir and orchestra classrooms and science classrooms appropriately sized for science experimentation and exploration. The new classrooms will allow Buckley to remain competitive with other area college preparatory schools, where average classroom size exceeds 600 square feet. Buckley's new classrooms will average 690 square feet, providing the space to accommodate modern teaching methods that focus on student-teacher interaction, group projects, and active learning. These new classrooms compare very favorably to Buckley’s existing general purpose classrooms that range in size from 195 to 495 square feet. Space will also be designated for academic department offices.

Middle and Upper School visual and performing arts programs will have appropriately equipped, specialized classrooms supported by practice areas, work space, and dressing rooms, along with ample storage for photography, ceramics, dance, band and choir equipment.
A new multi-purpose facility with 390 retractable seats will be available for performances, special presentations, class meetings and lectures, large gatherings of students and faculty, and to provide room for various activities on rainy days.
An enclosed Parking Facility will be located on two levels beneath the new Middle and Upper School Main Academic Center and will contain 240 parking spaces with an additional 66 spaces around campus for a total of 306 spaces compared to the current 214usable spaces. The Parking Facility, combined with an improved campus vehicle circulation plan and carpool and bus programs, will result in the elimination of all school-related queuing on Stansbury Avenue—an issue of long-standing concern to our neighbors. Additionally, the relocation of the Parking Facility to the center of the campus results in a balanced campus, thereby eliminating the need to export trucks full of dirt down Stansbury Avenue.
A new Library and Technology Center will feature state-of-the-art library facilities, a dedicated computer and research room for students, and new Middle and Upper School classrooms. Also provided will be a centralized food preparation and service area, some administrative space—including space for the Business Office, which is currently located in off-site, rented space—and a basement storage area.
A modern new Academic Building West will be built specifically to house school administration, admission and other important departments. The building also will contain several classrooms for use by Middle and Upper School students and serve as the front door to the school providing a welcoming reception area.
Buckley's athletic program will be enhanced by dedicating Disney Pavilion primarily to the indoor athletics program. A new Aquatic Center, featuring an outdoor swimming pool and a Pool House with lockers, changing area, and equipment storage space will be added at Gilley Field. An existing parking lot will become an outdoor basketball court with the addition of pavement striping and hoops.
The plan retains the prior request for an enrollment increase of 80 Middle and Upper School students—for a total of 830 students—who would be admitted over several years to further bolster the school's high academic standards and broad curriculum and round out the size of the athletic teams.
