The Buckley School is offering three invaluable summer classes for students entering the Middle School. These week-long courses provide students with vital tools to assist students with the transition into Middle School. Check out what’s going on for the summer!
ADVANCED ESSAY WRITING (for entering 7th or 8th graders)
"Practice, practice, practice writing. Writing is a craft that requires both talent and acquired skills. You learn by doing, by making mistakes, and then seeing where you went wrong." - Jeffrey A. Carver
Does the thought of having to write another essay send you into a panic? Do you break out into a sweat when trying to come up with a decent topic sentence? Then this class is for you! This one-week session will help students with proper essay structure and demystify things such as the elusive English thesis statement. Students will work in-depth on strategies to become better writers. This course will cover all aspects of an essay, including thesis statements, topic sentences, textual evidence, citations, lead-ins, transitions, and overall connection to the main idea. The goal is to provide students with strategies that will give them more self-confidence when expressing themselves with both long-term writing assignments and in-class essays. (Enrollment limited to 15 students entering 7th or 8th grade).
