Application and Interview

Application Deadlines for Fall 2010:

• Kindergarten: December 15, 2009
  NOTE: Sibling applications to kindergarten are due November 6, 2009
• Grades 6 – 12: January 8, 2010

How do I file an application for Fall 2010?

• Applications to Buckley should be filed online. APPLY NOW
• For applicants to grades 6 – 12, the student must complete the Student Application segment (we ask that the student complete this portion of the application without assistance).
• Upload a recent photograph of the applicant as well as a family photo. If you choose to mail the photographs, please send them to: The Buckley School, Office of Admission, 3900 Stansbury Avenue, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423.
• The $100 non-refundable application fee can be charged using a credit card.
• In the case of separation or divorce, it is necessary for the School to have signatures and parent information for both parents.
• We will only accept applications for grades one through five for special circumstances (relocation, sibling applying to another grade level, etc.)

How do I schedule an interview for Fall 2010?

• Once the completed application has been processed by the Admission Office, you will be contacted to schedule your interview.

Testing

Assessments

Kindergarten: All applicants to kindergarten will be assessed at The Buckley School.

• The Admission Office will schedule all kindergarten assessments by mid-December 2009; however the assessments will not take place until January-February 2010.
  NOTE: Sibling applicants to kindergarten will be assessed in November
• Applicants to kindergarten will be assessed in small groups of approximately 10 children, allowing students to interact in a classroom style setting while being assessed for developmental readiness.
• Assessments will last one hour and parents will be given a tour of the Lower School while the children are in classrooms.
• Assessments will take place in January and February 2010.

Admission Test

Grades 5 through 12: Applicants to grades five – twelve are required to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). This test is designed to assess a students’ academic achievement and is produced by the Educational Records Bureau (ERB).

• Buckley is an ISEE test site on Saturday, December 12, 2009, and Saturday, January 23, 2010.
• Buckley’s school code is 051628.
• Buckley recommends that student applicants take the ISEE no later than first weekend in February.

Teacher Recommendations and School Transcripts

How do I submit teacher recommendations?

• Print the applicant’s name on the required forms.
• Parent/Guardian must sign the confidential recommendation and release forms.
• Give the forms to the applicant’s teacher or school official.
• All recommendation forms and school records are due no later than February 1, 2010.

Kindergarten Applicants:

• Please print the Kindergarten Recommendation Form and submit it to your child’s current school.
• Recommendation forms are due to Buckley no later than February 1, 2010.

Middle and Upper School Applicants:

• If the applicant’s English and mathematics teacher is the same, please ask another academic teacher – or last year’s homeroom teacher – to complete the recommendation.
• Please print the confidential English Teacher Recommendation Form and submit it to your child’s current English teacher.
• Please print the confidential Math Teacher Recommendation Form and submit it to your child’s current math teacher.
• Please print the confidential Administrative Recommendation Form and submit it to your child’s current school head/principal/director.
• Please print the Authorization for Release of Student Records Form and submit it to your child’s current school.
• Recommendation forms are due to Buckley no later than February 1, 2010.
